Did you ever play “tea party” growing up? Every time I see a tea set in the toy section
of a store I think of the make-believe tea that I have made and served in my
younger years. My best friend and I
would share “tea” with our baby dolls while the world went on without us. What fun and enjoyment! What an innocent, sweet way for little girls
to enjoy themselves.
I treasure the tea set that my mom played with as a little
girl. She said that each time that she
played with it she would put it back in the box very carefully for
safekeeping. It was still in that box
all these years later when she entrusted it into my care.
On many occasions, I served Joy and a friend as they sat at
her small table all dressed for “tea.”
Thinking of the moment seems timeless and a treasure of memories to hold
on to.
A few years ago I began a small collection of teapots,
mostly from other countries. Often I have wondered why I chose teapots. For those of you familiar with “Mrs. Potts”,
maybe she had something to do with it. J Actually, I think that the thought of hot tea
is soothing and allows me to leave the hustle of life for a few minutes to
enjoy a cup of great tasting hot tea.
All of us rush here and there from time to time. Sometimes we forget that each day makes up
our life. What a simple statement, but
what a profound one! What are we doing with our lives? Are the events that make up each day what we
desire to be the result of our life? Is
our life peaceful or full of unwanted stress, turmoil and busyness?
The life we are looking for is not found in a teapot or any
other gadget or event. It is not found
in where we live or what brand of clothing that we choose to wear. The life we are looking for is found in God’s
Word. Look with me at these principles
from God’s Word.
1. Wait on the
Lord – Psalm 27:14
2. Be content
with what you have – Hebrews 13:5
3. Have a right
spirit – Psalm 51:10
4. Understand
what the will of the Lord is – Ephesians 5:17
5. Get rid of
known sin in your life – Hebrews 12:1,2
6. Do not worry
– Philippians 4:6,7
7. Do not be
easily offended – Psalm 119:165
8. Let the
peace of God rule your heart – Colossians 3:16
The book of Ecclesiastes tells the story of Solomon. As he reviews his life Solomon says in
chapter 12 and verse 13, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear
God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
What really matters in life is how we spend each and every
day. We do not want to say as Solomon
said in 12:8, “Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.” If we follow the principles listed, we will
be pleased with the outcome when our life is complete. What does “Tea Time” mean to you?
