Guard Their Heart PDF Print E-mail

Heartbroken, sobbing, wondering how this could happen to their child and longing to know the answer to the question of “why.” Many parents find themselves in this precarious condition after one of their children makes a poor decision that is followed with negative consequences.

The average American parent protects their child from many things. They guard what they eat to protect their general health. They guard how much they study to help them do well in school. They guard their skin by always making sure they put on sun screen. When your child is small you guarded their eyes by buying special shampoo that would not burn their eyes. The list could go on and on with all of the things that parents do to protect the physical and mental state of their children but none of those things satisfy a brokenhearted parent asking “why?”

It is imperative that above all things, parents learn to guard the hearts of their children. The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 23:7a, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” To protect your child from hardship and you as the parent from heartache, take the time now to guard their heart and train them how to make decisions so that they can in turn guard their own heart one day. Many times parents wonder why they cannot guide the hand of their child; it may be because they have never helped them guard their heart. Do not allow your child to give away their heart, instead help them guard it.
