Beacon Baptist Church of Raleigh, North Carolina was organized on June 4, 1948 with ten charter members. In the beginning, this small group of believers met in the home of J.D. Ballance. Later, as the congregation grew, they began to meet in a building on the corner of Franklin and Bloodworth Streets, then moved to 501 East Lane Street.
In 1966, the church voted to purchase 21 acres of land on Trawick Road and erect a new metal building. Today, after six building programs, our church address is still at 2110 Trawick Road.
Six men have served as pastor since we were organized in 1948: Herman Wooten, Herman Hersey, Billy Walker, Bob Woodard, Dr. Randy Cox, and our present pastor, Tim Rabon.
God has certainly continued to bless our church throughout its history. We have experienced numerical growth as well. In 1973, we had an average of 185 in our Sunday services. In 1993, we averaged 584 on Sunday mornings. And today, we are averaging over 1,500 in our Sunday morning services.
